Daventry started the new year in drama with a match that saw 5 goals a missed penalty and a controversial sending off.
Unfortunately for the Purple Army, Daventry were on the receiving end of a narrow 3-2 defeat as Carlton Town scrapped a narrow win.
Daventry took the lead on 18 minutes when Jack Bowen scored his first of 2022 with a header in the 6 yard box coming from an assist from Bleu McNeil’s cross.
The hosts has a great chance to equalise on 25 mins when Jeff Woodward was a deemed to have handled the ball in the box. The subsequent penalty was brilliantly saved by James Martin low down to his right. The penalty being struck firmly.
Carlton equalised on the half hour mark when Nat Watson was left unmarked at the back post, his shot going in off the bar. The hosts then took the lead 5 minutes later when Khyle Sargent blasted a loose ball from inside the penalty box.
Signs of Daventry’s improved form and resilience came just 2 mins later when George Ball got his 3rd goal of the week turning brilliantly to find the corner of the net to make it 2 all at half time.
The second half couldn’t live up to the first and the last goal came early in the second half when Tyler Blake scored from close range on 52 minutes to finish the scoring.
Still there was time for controversy as the referee sent off Ross Harris for denying a goalscoring opportunity. It looked harsh as the ball was running through to the keeper at a fair pace.
Daventry saw out the last 20 mins of the match with 10 men looking a solid side, but could not break Carlton down.
