Match Report

Arron Parkinson made changes to give players match time before the final match of the year at Elderstubbs.  Back came Kieran Fitzgerald, Tom McGowan and Phil Cassidy after they served their suspensions. The only player not available for selection was Jordan Orosz who is still out following the leg injury he picked up in the 6 1 mauling of Eynesbury Rovers.

The heavy overnight rain had left the pitch very we however Steve Tubb had worked wonders with his fork to remove the excess water from the early hours and no pitch inspection was required.

Town got off to a flyer with a goal with a little over 2 minutes gone. KIERAN FITZGERALD ran onto an excellent through ball from Adam Confue before taking one touch and slotting the ball past Joseph Home.

Luke Emery created two good chances for himself shortly afterwards. One from an acute angle which the big keeper just got a fingertip to and then a slightly more fortuitous save with his legs which went just wide of the upright.

Daniel Barber was lucky to escape a card with a poor challenge on Taylor Orosz that left the winger writhing around on the ground. Had it not been in the first 10 minutes of the match, it could well have been a yellow.

A Tom McGowan header was well saved by Home as he arrived late at the back post to meet a Creaney cross.

Two Kirby Muxloe players were cautioned for bad fouls, neither were as bad as the foul on Orosz.

Town got a second goal in the 43rd minute after a Creaney free kick was headed on by Confue and struck the outstretched arm of a defender. The ref pointed to the spot. Whilst ADAM CREANEY’S initial spot kick was saved, the keeper couldn’t hold on to it and he followed up to smash the ball home.

Town’s two goal lead lasted barely a minute as a ball broke kindly to Mark Tinsley who made no mistake with just Iustin Cerga to beat.

News broke at half time that 10 man Rugby Town had hung on for a narrow 2 1 at Wellingborough Town in an early kick off.

Town were on the attack from the start and again the keeper made two good stops. The first from Kieran Fitzgerald and the second from Taylor Orosz’s spectacular effort that he pushed around the post.

Town restored their two goal lead just after the hour when another superb ball out from the back found LUKE EMERY in the clear and he stuck the ball across the goal into the corner of the net for 3 1. The goal took Emery to the top of the UCL Premier Division goal scorers with 21 goals, 22 goals in all games this season. Taylor Orosz is in second place with 21 goals overall this season.

Luke Emery so nearly had a second, bar an excellent stop from Joseph Home. The effort from 25 yards out was right in the top corner however the keeper somehow got a good hand to it to claw the ball away.

FT: Daventry Town 3 Kirby Muxloe 1

There was good news as apart from the Rugby Town result, Deeping Rangers had lost 4 1 at home to Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United lost 2 0 to Eynesbury Rovers.

Town remain 9 points clear of Rugby Town ahead of the UCL match of the season second v first at Butlin Road on Boxing Day.
