Table-toppers Daventry Town maintained their massive wave of momentum with three first half goals that helped to secure a convincing win at Elderstubbs, on Saturday.
The runaway Premier Division leaders – unbeaten so far in 2019 – had gone ahead 14 minutes in when the unmarked Luke Emery scored from Joe Merrill’s deep free kick.
It was a different story for a while after the restart as Deeping took away Town’s most dangerous weapon – possession – by playing some nice football and imposing themselves on the game, as Cameron Johnson forced a flying save from home goalkeeper Lustin Cerga
Lewis Elsom saw plenty of the ball with his hands and feet as the hosts changed the tide and pushed Deeping right back in the latter stages of the first half, but the keeper’s mix-up following Adam Confue’s over hit long ball allowed Adam Creaney to charge down and score with 17 minutes left. It was the beginning of a surprising downhill descent for the visitors in the Northamptonshire sunshine.
Seven minutes before the break, Creaney scored a penalty when Daniel Flack tripped Kieran Fitzgerald when the winger was through on goal, which gave us a three to nothing lead at the break.
The intensity continued in the early stages of the second period as Taylor Orosz thumped home at the back post following an incisive three-man move to effectively kill the game, after fifty three minutes.
Rangers still rallied for any hint of a comeback, but Dan Jarvis failed to trouble from distance, whilst Dan Schiavi strolled through the Daventry defence but failed to trouble Cerga on the 78-minute mark.
Schiavi snatched a late consolation with a dubious tap in whilst standing in an offside position, but in truth Rangers were no match for Daventry’s power and lost their unbeaten away record in the process.
