Town travelled to Deeping Rangers for the final league match of the season with very little to play for after securing the title over the Easter weekend.
Sam Jackson was still unavailable after turning his ankle on the difficult Spalding United pitch.
The weather was always going to make playing conditions difficult with a strong wind gusting from one end to the other. Deeping elected to play with it in front of the 100 plus crowd.
As with Rugby Town last week, Deeping Rangers gave Town a guard of honour as they came on the pitch, there was also generous applause from the local crowd both before and after the match as the players left the clubhouse.
Town created more chances in the first half. Kieran Fitzgerald with the best of these when Taylor Orosz’s cross was flicked on by McGowan and the in-form winger struck a low volley which a defender somehow scrambled off the goal line.
Another mazy run along the by line by Fitzgerald went across the front of goal without getting a touch. A defender grateful chipped the ball clear for an appeared to be a corner only for the ball to end up still in play on the touchline in line with the edge of the penalty area as was the strength of the wind.
All square at half time with Deeping restricted to a long range Tommy Mooney effort which Cerga took well.

The second half started with driving rain as well as the wind however both would cease as the half progressed.
Deeping created more in the second half with a Michael Simpson shot crashing against the crossbar.
The only goal of the game came just 6 minutes from the end when a clearance was charged down by the onrushing striker Cameron Johnson and he was left with a simple tap in.

So Town lost only the second league game of the campaign and failed to score for the first time in what has been a remarkable season. One which the neither the committee nor management could have predicted at the start of the season.
Town now face Holbeach United in the KitmanUK Knock Out Cup Final at Raunds Town on May 6th in an attempt to win the double before they start preparations for their return to Step 4 football. They are predicted to join the Evo-Stik Southern League Central in which they are located centrally and where they are expected to face the likes of Bedford Town, Corby Town, Bedworth United, Cambridge City and Halesowen Town.
The Clubs Presentation Evening will take place on May 3rd at the Clubhouse. All Supporters and Sponsors are invited to attend.
The Club’s AGM will be held on May 9th at 7,30 at the clubhouse. Again, everyone is invited to attend.
Town are looking for local businesses to get involved with the club and help build on the success of the past three seasons.
