AFC Rushden & Diamonds from the BetVictor Southern Premier Central Division are welcome visitors to Elderstubbs for their final pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon. It is a 2pm kick off because of the Charity Boxing Event in the evening.
A number of the opposition will need no introduction to Town’s supporters with no less than 7 of their registered players who have worn the purple strip. Most recently Jack Ashton has spent a short spell on loan here 2 seasons ago after recovering from injury. Nathan Hicks played around 30 in midfield for Town under the management of Mark Kinsella back in the 2011/12 season. Tom Lorraine and Liam “Bully” Dolman played in Darran Foster’s side at Chesterfield in the FA Cup. Midfielders Joe Curtis and Ben Farrell played during our spell in the Northern Premier League along with goalkeeper Ben Heath.
Town are not short of Diamonds connections themselves with Manager Arron Parkinson and Assistant Manager Matt Finlay, defenders Joe Henderson, Ollie Wilkinson, Adam Confue, Joe Merrill and Taylor Orosz all having played for the Diamonds since they were reformed.
Despite all these connections, the two clubs have never faced one another before this match.
Town bolstered their defensive options by signing Kyle Barnett from Coventry United and 32 year old Nat Liburd. Former Kidlington defender Kane Finney has also put pen to paper after impressing during the pre-season.
Please remember the kick off is at 2pm.
