Daventry suffered a frustrating defeat to Yaxley this afternoon.
The first 20 mins were dominated by Daventry who had the majority of the possession and chances. A Lewis Irwin header after 5 minutes, and then Jack Bowen’s header a few minutes later which hit the post was the closest they got.
Bowen was gifted a golden chance from the spot after the referee gave a penalty for handball. Unfortunately the usually unflappable striker hit his penalty high and wide and with that the game changed.
Yaxley took the lead shortly after on 28 mins when Thomas Waumsley slotted past keeper Iustin Cerga from close distance to give Yaxley the half time lead.
The second half was frustrating for Daventry as they could not get a foothold back in the game. The best chance coming for Jamie Andrews who’s shot was spectacularly saved by the Yaxley keeper (pictured).
Jarvis Wilson was shown a second yellow card 5 minutes before full time, before a late header from Yaxley substitute Jack Eldridge who was left unmarked in the box completed the win for Yaxley.
It was good to see a couple of new faces for Daventry. A big welcome to Nat Gornal-Tyler signed on a dual registration from Rushden and Diamonds and the returning Archie Elmore.
